Sportsman's Dinner

The eighth annual Sportsman's Dinner was held on Friday 18th April and was enjoyed by over 180 brethren and their guests. The guest speakers were Bobby Tate a former Grade 1 referee, Peter Brown of HBoS and John McKelvie a former Govan policeman.  The evening raised £4,200 for MacMillan Cancer Care who were represented by Ms Susan Nimmo who presented to R.W.M Chris Kerr the Richard Hambro Award.  This award recognises all the work Bro. Chris has put in to fundraising for MacMillan.  As noted below, over £16,000 has been raised over the past three years.

Next year's dinner is on 24th April 2009 when the speakers will include John Gilligan, Joe Camay and Kenny Clark a local Grade 1 referee.

Lodge Charities

At the Regular Meeting at Maxwellton Road on Thursday 8th November 2007, the Lodge again opened its doors to non Masonic organisations in order to present them with cheques.  After a most interesting introduction from Bro Tom Nixon PM, The RWM Bro Edward Breadon made the following presentations:  Alzheimers Scotland - £200, The Boys Brigade - £200 and The Boy Scouts - £200. The largest cheque on the night, however, was destined for MacMillan Cancer Relief.  The evening's donation of £5,578.68 brought the Lodge's total giving to MacMillan Cancer Relief over the last three years to £16,633.25 - a splendid effort of which the Lodge is justly proud.

Sponsored Walk

This year's Sponsored Walk through Paisley will be held on Sunday 5th October 2008 in aid of MacMillan Cancer Care.  The walk starts at 2.30pm at Maxwellton Road where it also ends with refreshments.  All are welcome!

Long Service

At the Regular Meeting at Maxwellton Road on Thursday 9th November 2006, The RWM George Fotheringham had the rare distinction of presenting not one, but two Diplomas celebrating 50 year's service to Freemasonry.  The sprightly recipients were Bro William Muirhead PM and the present  Lodge Chaplain, Bro Derek Bateman.  They were heartily applauded by those present.

Smartie Campaign

Bro Dick Montgomery PM will be distributing more Smartie tubes to be filled with twenty pence pieces in aid of the Lodge's charities.
